Yesterday an unidentified object landed in the school field! The children in Year 2 and 3 became Newspaper reporters! Signs were put up for the children to follow a meteor trail. The children noticed there was an eyewitness ‘Hoppy’. They interviewed Hoppy! At lunchtime, a tiny astronaut appeared dazed, and a book called ‘How to spot an alien’. The children wrote a newspaper report recounting the incident and the interview with Hoppy. This was a ‘hook’ and introduction to newspaper writing. The children had learned in History the last term who was an eyewitness, so this prior learning was linked.
