We are Curious Learners!

D and T – Pouches

In design and technology we have been learning to sew a running stitch. This important skill will enable us to make a pouch which could contain money or trinkets. We will design the template for our pouch and decorate it. It has been fun but challenging as we needed to learn how to tie a knot in wool and thread the needle. We have learnt that it takes perseverance, resilience, self control and cooperation to be successful. Have a look at our photos of the progress so far.

History – Ancient Rome

In our history lessons we have been learning about Ancient Rome in 79AD when Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the city of Pompeii. We have learnt how archaeologists unearthed amazing artefacts that revealed what it was like to live in the past. In our photos and videos you will see us carefully extracting our own artefacts which we later researched to discover what their uses. Each lesson we have dressed up as Romans and we each have our own Roman name which our teacher has to try to remember. We even have our very own Emperor Nero who was in charge of the Roman Empire at the time of the tragic events in Pompeii. We looked at an artist’s impression of what the ancient buildings would have looked like before they were buried by the ash of the volcano. We then went on to building our own Lego buildings which we presented to the class (see our videos in the newsletter). The children have been so absorbed in their learning and are excited when it is time for the history lesson.
