Dear Parents & Carers,
We have had a hectic week with many school tours, taster days and, of course, World Book Day. World Book Day was a feast for the eyes with the school hall lit up with an array of characters during our whole school assembly and parade. I would like to encourage all pupils to spend their World Book Day tokens and continue to enjoy the pleasure of books. We will be in the Watford Observer World Book Day feature so please remember to purchase a copy on Friday 10th March if possible.
Also, last week our chick eggs arrived (as part of the EYFS project this term)! They have all hatched, and we are pleased to report that we now have nine beautiful chicks that are all fluffy and yellow! Last Friday, some of the children had an opportunity to hold them. Further updates regarding the Stanborough Primary Chicks will be shared on Class Dojo! On that note, I would also like to welcome our new parents and children who have joined the EYFS. We look forward to getting to know your children and nurturing their development.
I want to thank parents and carers for attending our ‘Cuppa & Chat’ morning last week Wednesday. It presented SLT with an opportunity to provide an update on key initiatives that are taking place in the school.
This is a reminder that our school-in-action morning will occur today and tomorrow. The mornings will provide you with an occasion to see our pupils thriving in each classroom, see exciting lessons and meet our brilliant staff. You are invited to see what makes Stanborough Primary School a special place. You can book a slot via the school office with Mrs Warwick. Please note places are limited, so please book one ticket per family. Two-time slots are available to choose from 9am or 10am. Please sign up for our waiting list if each session becomes fully booked.
It is going to get cold this week, so please ensure pupils are wrapped up warm.

Attendance W/C 27th February 2023:
Each school in the local authority has an attendance target that is set for them. This year our school attendance target is
96%. Of course, we do not expect children who are unwell to come to school. They need to stay at home and rest to get well. They also need to stay at home, so they do not pass on illness to others.
Year Group | Attendance % |
Nursery | 62.07% |
Reception | 72.0% |
Year 1 | 100% |
Year 2 | 76.0% |
Year 3 | 100% |
Year 4 | 94.87% |
Year 5 | 100% |
Year 6 | 100% |
Congratulations to Years 1, 3 5 & 6 for 100% attendance this week. Amazing!
Red Nose Day – Friday, 17th March 2023:
Next Friday, 17th March 2023 is Red Nose Day. The children are asked to bring in a £1.00 donation in order to wear red and a Red Nose on the day (no red hair dye please). This year, Amazon has been announced as the partner for Comic Relief, and will be selling their brand new red nose. The new nose for 2023 has been designed by Sir Jony Ive, who was previously the chief design officer at Apple, and is made almost entirely from plant-based materials.
The money raised from Red Nose Day 2023 goes towards tackling the root causes of poverty and social injustice. This year, the focus on fundraising will be on supporting those who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Medical/Dental Appointments:
Please hand in a written note to the teacher/school office, or telephone the school office. This ensures your child’s attendance is recorded correctly. Please contact the office if your child is unable to attend school by 10:00 am every day in line with our school policy.
Packed Lunches:
Please be reminded that we no longer serve school dinners and that you must provide your child with a packed lunch daily until further notice. We have received a number of queries with regards to bringing hot food from home as a packed lunch. We are happy for you to do so, but please use a suitable container – NO GLASS. Unfortunately, staff are unable to reheat the food.
Swimming Lessons – Spring Term Second Half:
Please be reminded that swimming lessons have now been changed to a Friday morning at Everyone Active, Watford Central. Children are required to wear their full PE kit (instead of the full school uniform) with the school logo visible as they are representing the school and we wish to maintain our high uniform standards at all time. Children are required to bring trunks/a swimsuit (one-piece swimming costume only), a towel and goggles in a separate swimming bag. Please note when the children enter the changing area they are required to remove their shoes and socks. Plastic overshoes are not provided so children may bring a lightweight pair of clean flip flops to wear.
After the Easter break, swimming lessons will be on Monday afternoons (1.30pm – 2pm) for the whole of the Summer Term.
Nuts in School:
Please note that we have children in school with a severe nut allergy – a reminder please that we are a no nut/nut free school (including Nutella). We really appreciate your support with this as the matter is extremely serious.
A plea!
Can we ask that parents check that you have labelled your child’s belongings as we have many items in lost property with no labels on them. It is much easier to give the items to the correct child if they are labelled; we also want each child to learn to look after their belongings and keep them safe. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
HSA Chair/ School Governor Vacancy:
We currently have one vacancy for the role of Chair of the Home School Association. If you would be interested in joining the Home School Association, please email the school office at info@stanboroughprimary.org.uk for further information.
