How are fold mountains formed?

In our topic lesson, we explored how fold mountains are created. Using play dough, we made models and used it to demonstrate our understanding of how fold mountains are created.

“Fold mountains are made when two tectonic plates move towards each other and compress the rocks and debris in between them. The layers (or strata) crumple and fold into mountains and mountain ranges. According to science, this process could take millions of years!”

Did you know that all the major mountain ranges in the world are an example of fold mountains? They continue to grow each year!
