Autumn / Week 4

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been another incredibly busy week filled with learning and exciting events. Last Monday, Pastor Shepley and his team led an extraordinary “Open the Book” assembly. Then, on Wednesday, our students had a fantastic time participating in National Fitness Day. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Coach Ross and the Sports Captains for organising such an outstanding event for the school.

We are also immensely grateful for your generous donations of canned goods for the Harvest Festival. Your support has significantly impacted this event’s success, and we truly appreciate your contributions.

Furthermore, we want to express our gratitude to those who attended the assembly at the Secondary School today, led by Pastor Shepley. Your presence and active participation were vital in making the assembly a meaningful and enriching experience for our students.

This week, we are gearing up for our school council elections, and we will share the results on Class Dojo, so please keep an eye out for updates. Our first council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday during lunch.

Our KS2 choir will also join the Secondary School for their choir lessons, which will continue throughout the autumn term. We welcome this opportunity to collaborate with the Secondary School and prepare musical performances for upcoming events, including the Secondary School Speech Night and the annual Secondary School Christmas concert.

Attendance W/C 25th September 2023:

Each school under the local authority has a designated attendance goal, and this year, our school’s target is to achieve a 96% attendance rate. Naturally, we do not anticipate unwell children to attend school as they need ample rest to recuperate and prevent the spread of illness to others.

If a child arrives after the register’s closing time, it will be marked as an unauthorised absence unless a valid reason is provided and approved by the Headteacher. Any child arriving late (after 08.50am) must go to the school office and be signed in by an accompanying adult. If a pattern of tardiness becomes frequent, the Headteacher will address the matter with the parent. It is important to note that being only 5 minutes late each day could result in your child missing the equivalent of three school days over the year.

Improving attendance is vital for a thriving learning environment. We are committed to sustaining our attendance incentive program, featuring termly certificates, extra playtime for classes with 100% attendance, and special privileges for students with outstanding records. These privileges will be determined collaboratively with our school council in the upcoming weeks. Well done to Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and year 3 for 100% you will receive an additional 5 minutes play this week.

Medical/Dental Appointments:

To ensure accurate attendance records, please provide a written note to your child’s teacher or the school office or call the office to report any absences. It is important to follow our school policy and inform the office by 10:00 am if your child is unable to attend school. Thank you for your cooperation.

School Dinners:

Lee’s Kitchen will be serving school dinners (Monday – Thursday). Please ensure you place your order via the school office a week before the meal (by the Wednesday).  Please note that school dinners cannot be ordered on the day.

Please be reminded that you will still need to give your child a packed lunch on Friday’s as meals are not served this day. Additionally, if you send a hot meal from home, please ensure it is packed in a suitable container, not made of glass, as our staff cannot reheat food.

This week is the YELLOW menu.

Black History Month

While we acknowledge and celebrate black history year-round, Black History Month is a unique annual occasion observed nationwide in October. It is a dedicated time to honour and appreciate the remarkable individuals and pivotal events that have profoundly influenced our world. During Black History Month, we pay tribute to the significant past figures and contemporary contributors who positively impact our society today.

We are excited to integrate Black History into our lessons in the upcoming weeks. Our students will actively engage in various educational activities, inspiring assemblies, and insightful workshops throughout October to enrich their understanding of this important aspect of our curriculum. We eagerly anticipate sharing what we have learned with you on Class Dojo in the coming weeks.

After-School Club Collection Reminder:

Our after-school clubs finish promptly at 4:45pm Monday to Thursday and at 2:45pm on Fridays. If you anticipate that you may be late, I would like to ask that you kindly contact the school office to inform us of the expected delay. If you are unable to reach our office team, please leave a message and they will endeavour to forward it to the staff on duty. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that late collections may result in additional charges to cover extended staff hours. We are keen to avoid this where possible, and your cooperation and consideration is greatly appreciated.
