What is World Nursery Rhyme Week?
Celebrating the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood, over 4 million children from 106 countries around the world have taken part in World Nursery Rhyme Week since its launch in 2013.
Our Early years have had a week full of activities designed to explore the three key areas of skill development. These are:
- Vocabulary, language, and literacy skills.
- Numeracy skills.
- Social, physical, and emotional skills.
The central element of this week was the Rhyme-A-Day Challenge, but there was an encouragement to show children how much fun nursery rhymes can be. We encouraged them to see how an interest in reading, rhyming, and song can be a great thing to develop, and to watch their confidence grow in literacy skills.
