The Big Anti-bullying Assembly

Today we had the big, special assembly focusing on Anti-bullying and how to communicate with others effectively. We discussed strategies and the importance of showing kindness, resilience and courage. We discussed how to recognize different types of bullying behaviours. We looked at the five-people-support-network plan using our five fingers which was a great tool to remember all the people who are available to listen to us and support us when we have a problem. It was a great opportunity to reinforce the messages about our school vision, school values and the various approaches dealing with bullying. This includes knowing what steps to take if someone is being bullied, ensuring our pupils know what to do if they are being bullied, how you will deal with anyone who bullies and that everyone should take bullying seriously because of the long-term impact it can have on friendships, self-esteem as well as emotional and mental health and wellbeing.

It was sad but powerful to hear about pupils from other schools who experienced bullying and their testimonies about how they stood against bullying. We heard about the antibullying ambassadors and their role within their school which inspired discussion about how we can inspire others with our positive attitude and kind actions. We created posters about anti-bullying and wrote a reflection, sharing our thoughts from assembly.

It was incredible to hear the whole school confirming there’s no bullying in our school and they aim to not let bullying creep into our school community.
