Year 6 have been learning about data handling and recording and presenting data. We used packets of skittles to collect data. Starting with the scientific question- “All the packets have an equal number of each coloured skittles”. We then conducted an investigation by eating each skittle (Mrs Swain didn’t realise she had bought special edition skittles that were all white!) and doing a tally chart. We recruited the help of the Year 4 class, Mrs St Cyr and Mrs Madden as we did not want cavities!
The different groups compared their data to see whether our hypothesis was true.
We found that even though each packet had around 210 skittles, none of the packets had an equal amount of skittles of the same colour.
The pupils loved the activity and could all represent data using graphs.
