Learning in Year 1/2

In History, we went back in time to 79AD to Pompeii in Ancient Rome. We are learning how the Romans lived under the rule of Emperor Nero. Life was very different for rich and poor Romans. We dressed up and gave ourselves Roman names. Can you see by the way we were dressed if we are rich or poor?

We wrote our own name and Roman name on a homemade wax tablet with a pretend stylus. Stephanie said, “It was fun dressing up as a rich Roman and choosing a Roman name. I chose Livia”. Lerato said, “I like learning by dressing up because it makes me feel like a real Roman.” Mrs Stow said, “Tablets were very different in those days.”

We have been learning about percussion instruments and are learning to use a music score to read notes and play melodies on the glockenspiel. Some of us can also compose our own melodies!

In our science lessons, we’re exploring the essential requirements for plant growth. Our hands-on experience includes tending to a vegetable patch where we are growing garlic, onions, and peas. Additionally, we’re growing runner beans, tomatoes, and cress, all destined to be harvested for a delicious soup.
