Active learning
By preparing, participating in, and, clearing away the tea party, our early years were actively involved in their own learning, and would keep on trying with the tasks at hand. When setting out tables they learnt to pay attention to detail and they had to consider practicalities such as where to place tea mugs so that nobody knocks them over.
The tea party is also an opportunity to teach manners such as not talking with a full mouth, keeping conversation to subjects that don’t put others off their food, sharing food, listening politely to others and waiting patiently to contribute to a conversation.
Reception children were able to write the recipe while we were waiting for our cupcakes to be baked in the oven. Wow, so many learning goals were achieved with one afternoon tea party with the queen!
