Dear Parents

Science Day – Thursday 11th March
Mrs Steyn and Miss V are organizing our Science Day and they are asking if parents could collect 500ml and two litre plastic bottles, as well as corrugated card and corrugated plastic for us to use on the day. If you have any of these items, please could you send them into school by Wednesday. Thank you.

Recorder Club
Parents, please be reminded that I will not be at Recorder Club next Wednesday – 10th March. Please be good enough to send the reply slip to Miss Harris (by Monday), to let us know whether you would like to use the after-school club facility or whether you would like a refund for that day.

Also, can I please remind all club members to ensure that they bring their recorders to the club when we next meet.

Breakfast/After-School Club
We have had one or two pupils make use of the breakfast club and the later after-school club time. We are continuing to monitor usage.

Sickness
There seems to be another little bout of sickness going around. Please continue to encourage the children in their hygiene routine.

Ballathon
It was an exciting afternoon. The hall was transformed into a mini golf course and the children worked their way around the courses … playing and filling in their score cards. The Jump Ball took place simultaneously outside and the children rotated. It was a fun afternoon and we hope that some of the children will be able to take up a new past-time as a result of this exposure. Our thanks go to Mr Steyn for organizing a great event.

Car Pool
We have a new family potentially joining us after Easter. They live in the Borehamwood area and are wondering if anyone is interested in sharing the school run. Please let Miss Harris know if you can assist or see me if you require further information.

Jack and the Beanstalk
It was a wonderful performance and a fabulous evening and now you can remember it for years to come by purchasing the DVD which is available from the office. Children in the Drama Club will receive a free copy. Those who sang in the choir, plus anyone else who is interested, can purchase a copy for £3. Copies are limited so it will be a case of ‘first come first serve’. Incidentally, our thanks go to Mr Hopa for the super job he has done in preparing the DVD for sale.

Music CDs
Last year, the school produced a CD. We thought we had run out of stock, but have found a few more in the cupboard. Anyone would like to purchase a CD can do so for £2.

Cross Country - Wednesday 10th March
For some it will be about winning, for others it will be about taking part and finishing the course. Whatever the personal goals, we look forward to all the pupils taking part in the Cross Country. All participants will need to have track suits, appropriate running shoes and a water bottle. The race will begin at 11.15am and parents are welcome to come and watch.

Internet Safety
Microsoft is supporting parents in online safety, by training their employees to deliver a presentation on the benefits and safety concerns of the internet. This is designed to build confidence for parents in understanding the technology, as well as guidance and practical advice to safeguard children and where to go for help. Claire Ward (MP for Watford) has organized for Microsoft to make a presentation to all parents. This will be held at Berrygrove Primary & Nursery School, Fourth Avenue, Watford, WD25 9RH on Tuesday 9th March 2010 from 7-8pm. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to e-mail Pippa on cracknellp@parliament.uk

International Evening – Thursday 25th March
The children are busy preparing their items from various countries and it promises to be a good evening. If you would like to have a display, donate a recipe or assist with the food preparation for the evening, please let Miss Harris or the class teacher know.

Fun & Fitness Haven
On behalf or Mrs Steyn, I would like to thank you parents, for your support. We were able to reach our 100% pre-school give-away target and this will enable us to receive the maximum equipment available for the early years.

Chess Club
Our Chess Club children will be playing against the Secondary School Chess Club next week. This event will take place during the school day.

Cooking with Schools
The Flora tokens are starting to roll in now and we would encourage you to keep registering them, so that we can fully equip our cooking club. These numbers can be entered on the website against our school name www.cookingwithschools.com , or given to Miss Harris. The more numbers we register, the more free cooking equipment we will receive.

Grow Your Own Potatoes
The children will be learning about potatoes and growing their own this term. The school that grows the heaviest crop will win an allotment makeover. If you would like to extend the potato experience to home, there are some recipes available at www.lovepotatoes.co.uk

And finally … consider how the lilies grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. (Luke 12:27)

Regards and blessings
