16th May 2013
Dear Parents/Carers
Marathon Assembly
Hannah Jones (daughter of Mrs Rees) came to speak to the children about her Marathon running experience at our assembly on Tuesday 14th May 2013. Hannah spoke of the hours of training and determination that was required to complete the course. The children were encouraged to pursue their goals and to recognise the sense of achievement that comes with overcoming obstacles. The assembly was well received and the children enjoyed the slide show, trying on the medals and asking the questions they had prepared. Hannah ran the marathon on behalf of the charity Emerge Poverty Free.
We also thank Amelia for playing her piano piece in assembly. We welcome performances by the children in assembly and would ask that you let the class teacher know if your child would like to perform.
Stanborough Secondary School Day of Fellowship – Sabbath 18th May
You are invited to the Annual PTA Day of Fellowship at the Secondary School. This will be a worship and fellowship experience. The morning programme will be from 10.30-12.30, followed by lunch, which is for all visitors. The afternoon programme is from 2.45-4.45pm and the concert is at 5pm. We trust many of you will be able to attend.
Careers Day – 21st May
Please support the School Council by signing up to be a speaker at this event. The event will take place on Tuesday 21st May from 1.20 – 2.45pm. The speakers will be required to prepare a 10 minute talk, which they will repeat to the different rotating groups. There will also be other activities such as quizzes and design your own posters, as part of this event. We look forward to your responses.
Non-Uniform Day - Wednesday 22nd May
The children may opt to wear non-uniform clothes, for a small payment of £1.50. Please note that this is optional, but that the majority of the children do take part.
Boxercise
The Club has informed me that numerous parents are picking up late from the Wednesday Club. The Club has decided therefore, that a late pick up will automatically mean that your child will not be permitted to attend the next session and that continual late pick-ups will result in a total ban from the club.
Clubs
All parents/carers are required to have signed up and paid for clubs at the office, in order for the pupils to attend.
Recital/Master Class Tuesday 11th June 2013
We will be having a violin recital/master class on the 11th June 2013. Emanuil Markov, who is currently studying violin and classical singing at the Music Conservatoire in Plodiv, will be performing for the children. Four of our violinists will also have the opportunity to play and to receive feedback.
Absences
Please be reminded that 95% attendance is required by all pupils and that we must adhere to this.
Class Photographs - Wednesday 5th June
Please ensure that uniforms are smart and clean and that shoes are polished. The girls are to wear summer dresses and white socks. (The correct dresses are available from John Lewis.) Hair accessories must be in school colours.
Sports Day – Thursday 13th June
All the children will be taking part and all parents/carers are invited to attend. Events begin in the morning after registration and the children may bring a packed lunch to school on that day. If the weather is fine, parents/carers are invited to join the children for a picnic lunch on the park. The junior events continue into the afternoon and should conclude at around 3.35pm. Please provide the correct PE kit, sun caps, sunscreen and a named water bottle for your child. Also, parents are asked to note that additional parking can be found at the rear of the Secondary School. We respectfully ask that you do not congest the surrounding roads or park in the BUC Car Park.
Also, please note the following: The children may come to school in their track suits on the day. School dinners will not be provided so the children have the option of bringing a packed lunch in from home or purchasing an HSA lunch.
Open Evening – Thursday 6th June 2013
Sign-up sheets will go out on Monday. Please secure a time to meet with the class teacher.
